Lisa Shanahan is an award-winning writer of picture books and fiction for young people. Some of her well-loved books include Gordon’s Got a Snookie, illustrated by Wayne Harris and Bear and Chook and Daddy’s Having a Horse, illustrated by Emma Quay. Her first novel for teenagers, My Big Birkett was published to critical acclaim in Australia, where it was short-listed for the CBCA Book of the Year for Older Readers and in the United States, where it was published as The Sweet, Terrible, Glorious Year I Truly, Completely Lost It. Her picture book Bear and Chook by the Sea, illustrated by Emma Quay, won the CBCA Book of the Year for Early Childhood in 2010 and her most recent picture book, Big Pet Day, illustrated by Gus Gordon, won the Speech Pathology Book of the Year Award for 5-8 year old children in 2015. Her latest novel for younger readers, The Grand, Genius Summer of Henry Hoobler won a Queensland Literary Award in 2017. Lisa lives in Sydney, with her husband and their three sons. She relishes writing for young people and is incredibly grateful to be doing what she loves.
